You need to select a city first
Loreto Mexico has become the choice destinations for travelers looking to experience the richness of Mexican culture and the country’s natural beauty without crowds of other tourists bustling around. This charming town has everything you need for a luxuriously relaxing vacation, and with so many things to do in Loreto Mexico, every day is filled with possibilities and adventure. As you look out to sea and set your sights on the Islands of Loreto, you’ll be dreaming of sailing across the water and snorkeling through schools of tropical fish. The best spot for these Loreto activities is Danzante Island, one of the large rocky islands just off the coast.
The only inhabitants of Danzante Island are small reptiles and seabirds, but the quiet of the island only adds to its charm. The island is part of Loreto Bay National Marine Park, which includes nearly 206,000 hectares of pristine waters and the five Islands of Loreto. Located in the Sea of Cortez, this area was famously nicknamed the “Aquarium of the World” by Jacques Cousteau because of the wide variety of tropical fish and other marine life that live here. In this nationally protected area, tour companies have to respect the natural environment, and fishing is limited.
Located just off the coast of Loreto, travelers can sail out to the island in a matter of minutes. While Loreto may not be as famous of a destination as nearby Cabo San Lucas, catching an international flight to this coastal town is just as easy. With a variety of direct flights from major airports in North America, flying into the Loreto International Airport is easy and affordable, and since the city is just a little over 600 miles south of the border, getting away to the Islands of Loreto is quick, even if you’re going for just the weekend.
While the island reaches an elevation of 1,050 feet, it’s greatest treasures are under the sea, and snorkeling is the best way to see it all. On a Danzante Island tour, you’ll experience secluded beaches, exotic wildlife, and the majesty of the open sea. As you sail out to the island, your naturalist captain and guide will show you some of the secrets and unique features of the area and its history, and once you’ve reached the rocky shores of the island, you’ll be able to jump in the water for one of the top Loreto activities: snorkeling. As you swim in the peaceful waters, keep your eyes open for bottlenose dolphins, manta rays, sea turtles, and brightly colored tropical fish, and if you stick your head underwater, you may even hear the calls of whales out at sea. These tours run every day from 9:00am - 12:30pm, giving snorkelers time to be in the water before it gets too hot and sunny, and they also include lunch and drinks to keep everyone energized and refreshed. During the trip, you’ll also be able to hike around the island, one of the best things to do in Loreto Mexico if you want to find breathtaking views. For all these Loreto activities on the tour, be sure to bring a camera, swimsuit, sunglasses, sunblock, and comfortable shoes for hiking.
As you sit on the shores of Loreto and look out to sea, you can hear the call of the islands, beckoning you to come explore its natural wonders. While there are plenty of things to do in Loreto on the mainland, a morning spent snorkeling and hiking on the islands will make your Mexico vacation unique and unforgettable, and as you explore the islands, you’ll learn more about the local environment and history, an enriching experience you won’t want to miss.
